Local Wal-Mart awards grant to chapter

008
Employees at the Wal-Mart on Jefferson City’s Stadium Drive held a grand re-opening in grand style Friday morning by awarding Local Facility Giving Program grants to three area not-for-profit agencies.
The American Red Cross Heart of Missouri Chapter was one of the recipients of a $2,500 grant.
“It is grants like these from companies like Wal-Mart that enable the Red Cross to deliver our mission,” said Executive Director Dave Griffith. “The American Red Cross receives no funding from any level of government. We rely on the generosity of the American people and companies like Wal-Mart to provide the funds for our mission.
“We are grateful Wal-Mart chose us to receive the grant. Those funds will be put to very good use in helping people prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.”
Store Manager John Taylor presented the $2,500 check to Griffith and Nancy Sell, the chapter’s major gifts officer.
Mothers Against Drunk Drivers and the Central Missouri Food Bank also received Wal-Mart grants at the ceremony.

Chapter responds to fire near Davisville

Mobile home destroyed

DAVISVILLE — The American Red Cross is assisting a Crawford County family after fire destroyed their mobile home Wednesday evening.
Red Cross officials received information about the fire Thursday afternoon. A volunteer met with the family, who lived on Highway 49 near Davisville, and provided financial assistance for them to meet their immediate emergency needs with the purchase of food and clothing.
Family members also received Red Cross comfort kits, which contain personal hygiene items, and referrals to local partner agencies.
The family is staying with relatives.
Red Cross volunteers will continue to monitor the family’s recovery process.
